Built here
At Roanoke's East End Shops, Norfolk & Western Class A No. 1218 was built in 1943 for a railroad that treated engineering as local work: practical, ambitious, and accountable to the people who depended on it. The only surviving Class A and the world's sole surviving 2-6-6-4, it is a reminder that Appalachia has never lacked builders or big ideas. The mills, mines, rail yards, farms, and shops around us made things that moved the country. Appalachian AI Works is a nod to that heritage, not a retreat into nostalgia, but a commitment to bring useful, modern tools back to the region and put them in the hands of the people who keep it moving.

About us
Appalachian AI Works was founded on a simple idea: bring AI to the underserved region of Appalachia. The mills, mines, farms, courthouses, and main streets that keep this region running deserve the same technology advantage as any coastal tech hub, without the coastal price tag.
From heavy industry to commercial and retail, we provide full-cycle AI, ML, and software development at reasonable costs. And we do it in person: our engineers deploy to your site, learn how your operation actually runs, and build alongside your people.
We're AI-first, but we believe in simplicity and the human touch. That means just the right amount of AI: greater results without leaving behind your customers, your employees, or your processes.

What we believe
Forward-deployed engineers, on your site. You'll know our names and we'll know yours.
Just the right amount of AI. The best solution is the one your team actually uses.
Plain English, honest scopes, fair prices. If AI won't help, we'll say so.
Technology should back your people up, not push them out the door.

People first
The best solution is the one your team actually uses. We build alongside the people who know the work, then leave them with tools they can trust and make their own.
